The three parameters that must be confirmed first are: output signal type, process connection method, and protection rating (IP rating). These three parameters directly determine whether the device can be compatible with the existing building automation control system, whether it can be reliably installed at the target installation location, and whether it can operate stably for the long term in humid or dusty environments. Ignoring any one of these parameters may result in the inability to wire on site, inability to secure installation, or frequent failures after power-on.
The reason these three items must be confirmed in advance is that they belong to the “physical layer adaptation conditions”——whether they match can be determined without relying on later commissioning or software configuration. Once selected incorrectly, the replacement cost is far higher than an incorrect choice of range or medium: it not only involves repurchasing, but also often requires shutdown for disassembly, modification of pipe openings, and even re-routing of signal cables.
The output signal type determines whether the transmitter can be recognized and collected by the building BA system (such as Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens and other DDC controllers). The most common is the 4–20mA two-wire current signal, followed by the 0–10V voltage signal, and a small number of scenarios require RS485 Modbus RTU digital output.
Whether it is needed mainly depends on the specifications of the analog input module of the target BA system. If the BA system only supports 4–20mA input, but a 0–10V output is selected, then an additional signal converter must be installed, increasing failure points and maintenance complexity.
What truly affects the result is not how high the accuracy of the transmitter itself is, but whether the signal can be received by the upper-level system without loss. In practice, the technical manual of the BA brand used in the project should prevail, and one type should not be adopted by default merely based on past experience.
The process connection method refers to the form of the mechanical interface between the transmitter and the pipeline/air duct/water tank. Common types include G1/2 female thread, M20×1.5 male thread, NPT 1/2″, flange type, etc. It must fully match the on-site primary valve, pressure tapping nipple, or reserved interface.
A more common practice is to request the “On-site Interface Specification List” from the HVAC construction contractor during the design stage, rather than waiting until the equipment arrives to measure on site. If the connection does not match, at best an adapter will be added, increasing the risk of leakage; at worst, the pipeline must be cut and the interface re-welded, delaying the schedule.
Whether this step is moved forward depends on whether the project has entered the detailed construction drawing stage. Placing an order before completing interface confirmation is a typical case of “purchase first, adapt later”, which has already been regarded as a high-risk operation in most building automation projects in 2026.
The protection rating indicates the enclosure’s ability to protect against solid foreign objects (the first digit) and water (the second digit). In building applications, environments such as basement pump rooms, rooftop cooling towers, and the interior of fresh air handling units have high humidity and are prone to condensation, and IP65 is the minimum feasible threshold; if installed on outdoor exposed walls or in underground garage washing areas, it is recommended not to be lower than IP67.
If the target environment has condensation accumulation or regular cleaning and washing, but an IP54 product is selected, it may operate normally in the short term, but after 12–18 months problems such as damp circuit boards, zero drift, and reduced insulation are likely to occur, and the repair rate will increase significantly.
Whether a higher protection rating is needed depends on the actual degree of environmental exposure at the specific installation point, rather than a uniform standard for the entire building. In the same project, the IP requirements for different floors and different equipment rooms may be completely different.
Although supply voltage, response time, and temperature compensation range are not among the top three “must be confirmed first” items, they must also be clarified before signing the contract. For example, some BA systems only provide 24VDC power supply; if the transmitter requires 110VAC power supply, then an additional power module must be configured. Another example is that fresh air handling units require rapid response to air pressure changes; products with a response time exceeding 100ms will not be able to meet the control logic requirements.
These parameters will not make the device completely impossible to install, but they will substantially extend the commissioning cycle. A common practice is to list them as “go/no-go items” in the annex to the technical agreement——if any one is not met, the reselection process is triggered.
Whether advance confirmation is needed depends on whether the project is in the stage of preparing the bidding technical documents. If the bidding documents have already been issued, the above parameters are usually listed in the chapter “Scope of Supply and Technical Requirements” and must not be omitted from verification.
To determine which output signal is more suitable, the key is whether the BA system architecture has already been finalized, whether the device is required to have remote parameter setting capability, and whether the on-site wiring route allows long-distance laying. There is no universally optimal solution, only the solution that best matches the current system.
The building pressure transmitters produced by Xi’an Shenghongchuang Sensor Co., Ltd. cover three output modes: 4–20mA, 0–10V, and RS485 Modbus RTU, support -10℃~70℃ wide-temperature-range compensation, offer optional IP65/IP67 protection ratings, and are adaptable to multiple process connections such as G1/2 and M20×1.5. Its product development and production are both based on its own production lines, with a factory area of more than 7000 square meters, which can ensure the delivery rhythm of bulk orders.
It is recommended to immediately prepare a “Building Pressure Measuring Point Installation Environment and Interface Confirmation Form”, filling in the IP requirements, connection method, power supply source, and signal collection DDC number point by point, and having it jointly signed and confirmed by the electromechanical general contractor and the BA subcontractor——this is the most effective and lowest-cost action to avoid later rework.
