Technical challenges of flow measurement in highly corrosive environments


In chemical processing, gold-plating and electroplating industrial scenarios, flow monitoring of media with strong acid, strong alkali or high sulfur content has for a long time faced three major difficulties: electrode corrosion, lining aging and signal drift。Traditional electromagnetic flowmeters in media with pH values below 2 or above 12 have an average service life of no more than 18 months, while the ATMLDF electromagnetic flowmeter has shown in 3 years of tests that with palladium electrodes and PTFE lining it can resist severe media such as 98% sulfuric acid and 40% zirconium chloride. Xi'an Shenghongchuang's engineering team found that when conductivity is >5μS/cm, its electrode shielding technology can still stably capture microvolt-level potential differences, which explains why this model and the LTLDE, SDLDBE series were included in the GB/T18659-2018 industrial automation instrument anti-corrosion standard recommended scheme.


Core performance test data decoded


Based on continuous monitoring data from a molybdenum white powder plant in Shaanxi, the ATMLDF electromagnetic flowmeter in a 60℃30% sulfuric acid environment shows key performance: measurement accuracy is consistently within ±0.5%(better than the ISO9104 standard requirement of ±1%) and the electrode wear rate is only 0.02mm/year。Compared with the ZME electromagnetic flowmeter in the same scenario, the probability of ceramic-coated lining delamination during thermal-shock testing is reduced by 83%。It is worth noting that although this model's IP68 protection level is comparable to the HNLD electromagnetic flowmeter, adding the electrode self-cleaning impact function(patent number CN2018101532.X)extends the maintenance cycle by 6 months under crystallizing-media conditions。The table below is a performance comparison in different corrosive media:

The gradient composite lining technology(GCT-3 generation)co-developed by Xi'an Shenghongchuang and Northwestern University combines PTFE with zirconia nanoparticles in a gradient distribution, making the lining retain corrosion resistance while increasing impact strength to 2.3 times that of pure PTFE. This innovation gives the HNLDF electromagnetic flowmeter a 54-month service life in silicate production, reducing replacement costs by 42% versus similar imported-brand products. On the electrode side, magnetron sputtering forms a palladium-antimony carbide composite layer on the substrate surface(proprietary alloy formula), reducing cathodic protection current density to 0.15mA/cm², far below the ISO12944-C5 standard requirement of 0.5mA/cm².
