1、Preparations Before Installing the Ultrasonic Flow Sensor


Before installing the LT-GDUF2000 ultrasonic flow sensor,adequate preparations must be made。First,confirm the pipe material and pipe diameter,as pipes made of different materials have a significant impact on the propagation characteristics of ultrasonic signals。For common metal pipes such as carbon steel,stainless steel,and cast iron,ultrasonic signal transmission is relatively good;while for non-metallic pipes such as PVC and PE,a dedicated sensor model should be selected。Second,check the surface condition of the pipe to ensure that the outer wall of the pipe in the installation area is smooth and flat,without severe corrosion or coating。If the pipe surface condition is poor,grinding treatment is required to ensure good contact between the sensor and the pipe。


Another important preparation is determining the installation location。An ideal installation location should meet the following conditions:the length of the upstream straight pipe section should be no less than 10 times the pipe diameter,and the length of the downstream straight pipe section should be no less than 5 times the pipe diameter;it should be away from interference sources such as pumps,valves,and elbows;the medium inside the pipe should be full and free of air bubbles。For wall-mounted ultrasonic flow sensors such as BST-100 and TOP-UFH86,environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity at the installation site must also be considered to ensure they are within the sensor’s operating environment range。


2、Detailed Installation Steps for the LT-GDUF2000 Sensor


The first step is to determine the sensor installation spacing。Use the measuring tools supplied with the equipment or refer to the table according to the pipe diameter to determine the installation distance between the two sensors。For models such as RH-TUF-2000S,the accuracy of the installation spacing directly affects measurement accuracy,and the error should be controlled within ±1mm。The second step is to clean the pipe surface。Use a dedicated cleaning agent and sandpaper to thoroughly remove dirt,rust,and coatings from the installation area until a metallic luster is exposed。The third step is to apply coupling agent。Apply a sufficient amount of ultrasonic coupling agent evenly to the contact surfaces of the sensor and the pipe to eliminate air gaps。


The fourth step is to secure the sensor。Install sensors such as MTPCL-5B according to the determined position and angle,and tighten them with the matching fixing device。Note that the sensor should remain parallel to the pipe axis,and the line connecting the two sensors should form a specific angle with the pipe axis(usually 45°)。The fifth step is to check signal quality。Check the signal strength and signal quality parameters through the device display or supporting software to ensure the best measurement status is achieved。If the signal quality is poor,the sensor position needs to be readjusted or the installation conditions need to be checked。


3、Commissioning and Verification After Installation


After installation is completed,system commissioning and verification must be carried out。First,set the pipe parameters,including pipe diameter,wall thickness,material,medium type,etc。For intelligent sensors such as HZ-100B,these parameters can be entered directly through the menu。Then perform zero-point calibration,adjusting the zero point when the medium is stationary to eliminate system errors。Next is flow verification,which can be performed by comparing readings with other reliable measuring equipment or by using a standard flow device。


During commissioning,special attention should be paid to signal stability and measurement repeatability。A good installation should provide stable signals and repeatable measurement results。If the measured values fluctuate significantly or do not match expectations,factors such as the installation location,coupling agent condition,and pipe conditions need to be checked。For high-end models such as TOP-UFB,the self-diagnostic function can also be used to quickly locate problems。


4、Common Installation Problems and Solutions


Various problems are often encountered during actual installation。Weak signal or no signal is the most common problem,and possible causes include insufficient coupling agent,improper sensor position,and unsuitable pipe conditions。The solution is to reapply the coupling agent,adjust the sensor position,or improve the pipe surface condition。Large deviation in measured values is also a common problem,which may be caused by incorrect parameter settings or improper installation location,requiring careful verification of parameters and reselection of the installation location。


For wall-mounted sensors such as ZFD-100FB,attention should also be paid to the impact of environmental factors。High temperature,high humidity,or strong electromagnetic interference environments may lead to unstable measurement。In such cases,additional protective measures should be considered or a model more suitable for harsh environments should be selected,such as industrial-grade products like BST-100A。Regular maintenance is also important。It is recommended to check the sensor installation status and coupling agent condition every 3-6 months to ensure long-term stable operation。
