Two Foreign Leaders Lead China's Fiber Optic Sensor Market as Domestic Companies Accelerate Capacity Expansion
Added to Favorites:125

In 2025, China’s fiber optic sensor market reached RMB 9.11 billion, up 10.2% year on year, following a pattern of declining and then rising over the past five years. Competition remains led by two major foreign players, which hold significant market shares. Meanwhile, domestic companies are entering a peak period of capacity investment, accelerating the localization process.

The market’s recovery and the faster pace of domestic capacity development are two trends worth watching in the industry. The former reflects changes in the scale of market demand, while the latter shows companies’ investment in supply capacity. Their simultaneous emergence creates opportunities for domestic companies to expand their business, but is not in itself enough to indicate that the existing competitive landscape has changed.

Companies such as HGTECH are advancing initiatives in areas including automotive, pressure sensing, smart grids, and fiber optic sensing. In assessing this trend, it is important to distinguish between a company’s overall business strategy and its capacity development for fiber optic sensors. Investments spanning multiple areas cannot all be equated with new fiber optic sensor capacity, nor can they be directly translated into market-share gains in this market.

For localization, capacity development is a positive signal on the supply side, but its actual impact will depend on whether new capacity can be converted into stable deliveries and customer adoption. If these projects proceed smoothly and gain sustained recognition from end users, domestic companies may have greater scope to participate in the market. For procurement, the potential change is a wider choice of suppliers, though specific options still need to be assessed in light of product performance, supply reliability, and application suitability.

Going forward, it will be important to track companies’ disclosures on project commissioning progress, actual output and order performance in their fiber optic sensing businesses, and any changes in market share. This information will help show how domestic companies’ investments in capacity translate into competitive capabilities. Market growth in 2025 provides a demand-side signal, but whether the foreign-led competitive landscape changes will also depend on how well domestic supply capabilities align with customer demand.
