Is the ZK-LDC electromagnetic flowmeter inaccurate after installation? It may be caused by these 4 common operating errors
Added to Favorites:125

Is the measurement inaccurate after installing the ZK-LDC electromagnetic flowmeter? This is often caused by improper operation. As a professional manufacturer of flow control equipment, we have found that 90% of measurement errors stem from 4 common installation mistakes: the electrodes are not fully submerged, the straight pipe section is insufficient, the grounding is poor, or the lining is selected improperly. This article will analyze in detail the correct installation points for products such as the ZK-LDC electromagnetic flowmeter and LDG electromagnetic flowmeter, helping operators quickly troubleshoot problems and ensure the measurement accuracy of water flow sensors.

1. Electrodes not fully submerged: the hidden killer of liquid conductivity

The working principle of the ZK-LDC electromagnetic flowmeter is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, which requires the measuring electrodes to be fully submerged in the conductive liquid. We once handled a case at a water treatment plant: the operator installed the HK-LDE electromagnetic flowmeter on an inclined pipeline, causing part of the electrodes to be exposed to air, and the measurement error reached as high as 15%. The correct approach is: ensure the pipeline remains full, and avoid installing it at the high point of the pipeline or where air pockets accumulate. For insertion electromagnetic flowmeters (such as the W3000 series), attention should also be paid to the probe insertion depth in accordance with the ISO 6817 standard, which usually requires insertion at the 1/8~1/4 position of the pipe diameter.

2. Insufficient straight pipe section: the chief culprit of flow field disorder

Whether it is the PLUS electromagnetic flowmeter or the ZK-LDE electromagnetic flowmeter, sufficient upstream and downstream straight pipe sections are required to stabilize the flow field. According to the DIN EN 29104 standard, the requirements for straight pipe sections vary significantly under different installation conditions:

Types of interference sourcesMinimum upstream straight pipe sectionMinimum downstream straight pipe section
Single elbow5D3D
Double elbows (same plane)10D5D
Downstream of pump valve20D10D

Note: D is the nominal pipe diameter. In practical applications, users of the HY-LD electromagnetic flowmeter often overlook pump valve disturbances, resulting in periodic fluctuations in the measured value. It is recommended to use a flow conditioner for compensation when space is limited.

3. Grounding system defects: an amplifier of electromagnetic interference

Products such as the Magne electromagnetic flowmeter have extremely strict grounding requirements. A typical case: a ZYLDE electromagnetic flowmeter at a chemical plant generated a 1.2V potential difference due to sharing a grounding wire, resulting in data fluctuations. The correct practices include:

  • Set up a separate grounding electrode, with grounding resistance<4Ω(in humid environments, <1Ω is required)
  • Use the manufacturer's original grounding ring(especially suitable for PTFE-lined pipelines)
  • Avoid sharing grounding with frequency converters and high-power motors
  • Regularly inspect the integrity of the grounding wire(quarterly inspection is recommended)

4. Incorrect lining selection: a fatal blind spot in media compatibility

The HHD electromagnetic flowmeter offers a variety of linings such as rubber, PTFE, and PFA, and incorrect selection may lead to:

  1. Corrosion perforation(for example, using a rubber lining for hydrochloric acid)
  2. Adhesion and buildup(for example, using smooth PTFE for slurry)
  3. Temperature deformation(lining delamination caused by overtemperature use)

Our engineering team once customized a special conductive PFA lining solution for a customer, successfully solving the flow measurement problem of 98% concentrated sulfuric acid. It is recommended to refer to the ASTM D543 standard for media compatibility testing.
