HY-LD electromagnetic flowmeter sudden failure? Senior engineer teaches you a 5-step rapid troubleshooting method
Added to Favorites:125

How to quickly resolve a sudden failure of the HY-LD electromagnetic flowmeter? In this article, senior engineers from Xi'an Shenghongchuang share a 5-step troubleshooting method. Aimed at common faults of insertion-type PTFE-lined electromagnetic flowmeters, it helps operators quickly identify abnormal sensor issues in models such as LDG and HK-LDE, ensuring the stable operation of water flow monitoring systems.

I. Common Fault Types and Definitions of Electromagnetic Flowmeters

As the core equipment for liquid flow measurement, the HY-LD electromagnetic flowmeter operates based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. When a conductive liquid flows through a magnetic field, an induced electromotive force is generated on the electrodes, and its magnitude is directly proportional to the flow velocity. However, in practical applications, sensors with an insertion-type PTFE-lined structure often develop measurement deviations due to factors such as medium characteristics and installation environment. Statistics from the Xi'an Shenghongchuang engineering team show that 80% of on-site faults are concentrated in three major categories: electrode contamination, lining damage, and empty pipe alarms. Among them, models such as LDG and ZK-LDE exhibit different fault characteristics due to differences in electrode structure.

II. Detailed Explanation of the 5-Step Systematic Troubleshooting Method

Step 1: Power Supply and Signal Loop Inspection

Use a multimeter to measure the converter power supply voltage, which should remain stable at 220V±10%(AC)or 24V±5%(DC). Focus on checking the fuse status of the W3000 electromagnetic flowmeter, as blown fuses account for 67% of power supply faults. For split-type structures such as Magne electromagnetic flowmeters, it is also necessary to test the insulation resistance of the signal cable, and the standard value should be >100MΩ/500V.

Step 2: Electrode Contact and Contamination Assessment

After disconnecting the power supply, use a 500V megohmmeter to measure the electrode-to-ground resistance of the HHD electromagnetic flowmeter. The normal value should be >50MΩ, and if it is lower than 20MΩ, crystalline contamination is present. For the platinum-iridium electrodes of the ZYLDE electromagnetic flowmeter, it is recommended to use 5% dilute hydrochloric acid soaking for cleaning, and mechanical scraping of the PTFE lining is strictly prohibited.

Step 3: Empty Pipe and Grounding Verification

The empty pipe alarm function of the PLUS electromagnetic flowmeter requires the medium conductivity to meet >5μS/cm. The empty pipe status can be confirmed by calling up the Err08 code through the menu. At the same time, check whether the grounding ring is reliably connected, and the grounding resistance should be <10Ω(GB/T 20840 standard requirement).

Step 4: Parameter Configuration Verification

Compare the factory parameter sheet of the HK-LDE electromagnetic flowmeter, and focus on confirming:

  • The pipeline diameter matches the actual size(error <±0.5%)
  • The flow range setting covers the operating condition range
  • The pulse output coefficient is consistent with the host computer

Step 5: Magnetic Field and Lining Integrity Test

Apply 50Hz alternating current to the ZK-LDC electromagnetic flowmeter, and use a gauss meter to measure the coil magnetic field strength. If the deviation is >15%, the excitation unit needs to be replaced. Use a flashlight for transmitted-light inspection of the PTFE lining; if bubbles or cracks appear, it must be returned to the factory for handling.

III. Typical Fault Comparison Table for Different Models

ModelFrequent faultsSolutions

IV. Professional Maintenance Recommendations

According to the ISO 9103 standard, it is recommended every 6 months to carry out:

  1. Electrode impedance testing(measured at 1kHz using an LCR meter)
  2. Lining thickness inspection(ultrasonic thickness gauge accuracy 0.1mm)
  3. Overall sealing verification(0.6MPa pressure holding test)
Xi'an Shenghongchuang provides original factory calibration services, enabling ±0.2% accuracy restoration for ZK-LDE electromagnetic flowmeters.
